Old Business:
Financials: Shannon said for the year end 2014 there is a profit 0f 53,208.09 (they have not been charged for benefits or payroll wages which is about 25000.00) which as of now leaves a profit of 51000.00
Judy asked how they are doing with the numbers and Shannon said things look good. As of today we have 123 kids registered (103 families) she anticipates more by the start of school and 6th graders after school registered is 8. John Pacheco asked about the # of kids for each site and Steere Farm can have 105 on a daily basis and Callahan can have 70. Shannon said they are going to set up a booth at the middle school to let parents know about the after school program at BEC.
Judy asked about staffing if they had enough and Lisa said they are hiring for the fall. Employees start at 8.75 per hour and after 90 days go up to 9.00 per hour. The hours are from 6:30-8:30amd and 2:45-6:00pm. Judy said dome of the staff at Spring Lake were asking about jobs and there was an ad placed in the Bargain Buyer.
New Business: Update on possible sites for BEC…Judy said for many years now they have had money in an account of around 225,000.00 They have looked for something where they can do more activities and offices for the girls but still be based at the schools. Looking for more options for the summer program instead of being at the school. The past they have had the school coming down and looking at the area for the schools use. Alyssa mentioned the Boys and Girls Club and it was talked about but as of now its been tabled and can re-visit at a later date. Don’t want to take kids/money away from BEC. The age groups are completely separate. Judy asked if the girls had noticed any places they
thought would be a good spot to look into. During the school year they need to be in the school not only for the kids but the parents. The summer program is a different story due to space issues. Lisa doesn’t want to raise the rates any more with the recent increase where the parents can’t afford the program if the new the building costs more money. The Champlin building can’t be used because they don’t have the right liscensing to utilize it. It isn’t being used by anyone at this time. It would be nice for them to have their own building in time but its something to think about in the future. BEC and Parks and Rec partner up during the summer program would be a win/win situation for both sides. Have people coming and do extra activities with the kids during the summer. BEC has been around for 18 years and for them to seek out a new site would be something to talk about in the future. Greg asked why the high school and middle school are not used in the off season. John
said it would probably be more expensive. There would be more to do as far as the fields and courts. Not an option at this time.
